Seven SNAP supporters take on 30th anniversary skydive
The skies over Peterborough were filled with excitement as a team from SNAP successfully completed their much-anticipated tandem skydive event on 9 June at Sibson Aerodrome. Our 7 intrepid skydivers were not fazed by the grey skies as they took the 13,000-foot plunge through the clouds.
First-time skydivers included two SNAP staff members – Fiona and Sara, long-standing SNAP supporter Mark Southgate, and the Matthews family, who were first to take the jump! The Matthews family were quickly suited up and took to the skies strapped tight to their instructors. Mandy Matthews was last out of the plane – “I was quite surprised that I wasn’t absolutely terrified! The instructors were amazing and made you feel much more at ease than I was expecting. My favourite part was the freefall from the plane. It was totally exhilarating!! It was such a great thing to do as a family and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone who took part. Thank you SNAP for the opportunity!”
The Matthews family gracefully descended to the ground one by one as spectators cheered them on. Mandy’s sons Ted and Billy were particularly beaming afterwards. Billy said, “It was amazing! I think everyone should have a go!” Billy had such a great time that he has said that he now wants to be a skydive instructor and has included his experience at Drama Club acting out his freefall.
Next up Fiona, Mark and Sara took to the skies, racing to beat the incoming showers. Fiona said, “What an incredible experience to be part of SNAP’s 30th Anniversary skydive! I feel so proud to have had the opportunity to jump alongside such amazing people. Watching Billy and his brother Ted landing from their jumps with the most wonderful beaming smiles on their faces gave me the confidence to put my nerves to one side and enjoy every second of my jump! Thank you so much to everyone who so generously donated.”
Mark, Director at Moulton Johnson, was jumping not only for SNAP, but to celebrate Moulton Johnson’s 50th Anniversary. Mark said, “Whilst the whole skydiving experience was fantastic, I am genuinely taken aback about the generosity of everyone that sponsored us to raise this amount of money for a truly worthwhile charity.”
Together our skydivers have raised an astounding £8,079 as part of SNAP’s 30th Anniversary celebrations and donations are continuing to come in.
Sara Clifton, Fundraising Manager said, “What a fantastic day! It was incredible to see these brave people jump out of a plane for SNAP! I am so proud of our jumpers and I am blown away by the incredible support from the SNAP community. The funds raised will make a huge difference and help to continue supporting families all across Essex. We are immensely grateful to everyone who participated and donated.”
