Diamonds in the community

 

Russell Lord and his family have been incredible supporters over the past eight years. With numerous fundraising ventures and a sum of over £20,000 raised, they are determined to keep increasing the total.

Russell, owner of family-run Shenfield jewellers, Lords, first began raising money and awareness for SNAP after a couple came into his shop and shared the impact the charity had on their family. The wife broke down in tears, and this secured SNAP in the Lord family’s hearts, pushing their generous fundraising efforts towards the small, local charity which had vast impact on the surrounding community.

Over the years that followed, Russell’s passion project of carefully crafting and selling 8-inch model cars blew up on social media and went viral. Built from precious metals and jewels, his labour of love brings together his love of craftsmanship and his zeal for the MK2 Ford Escort. It’s one of the highlights of a glittering 54-year career for Russell, who has created jewellery for royalty and celebrities.

CEO Karen shared, “We are absolutely blown away by Russell’s continued generosity and support. We cannot thank him enough, especially  for donating two gorgeous diamond necklaces for our charity balls in 2024 & 2026. To have the support of this local business can bring new  families to us who need advice and encouragement, as well as new opportunities to collaborate on new projects, events and fundraisers.”

A family affair

Russell’s soon-to-be son-in-law, Marc, recently took part in an amateur charity boxing match for SNAP after 10 weeks of training. He had never boxed in his life or stepped foot in a ring, so doing this a few months before his wedding to Russell’s daughter, Sarah, was a little risky!

Marc shared, “I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and have a new challenge to work towards. A couple of my friends were up for it, and it was a good way to get fit too!”

He raised a phenomenal £5,915 and received the Top Fundraiser award on the night. He also took home a win and came away unscathed.
