Support poured out for charity wine event
Corks popped and glasses clinked as generosity took centre stage at SNAP’s Beat the Wine Bluffers event, raising vital funds to support Essex families who have a child with any additional need or disability.
Wine enthusiasts and members of the SNAP community came together for an evening of exceptional tasting, lively entertainment, and meaningful giving with special thanks to Labelnet for sponsoring this event and to Penny Hollington (Lady Penelope Wines) and Nish Patel (Shenfield Wine Company), who organised and hosted this amazing evening.
The ‘Call My Bluff’-style event saw three bluffers put their wine knowledge to the test, each attempting to convince the audience they were the true expert.
The evening begun with a sparkling welcome drink, generously donated by Silverhand Estate, before guests eagerly joined in, sampling six wines—three white and three red—while trying to separate fact from fiction. The friendly competition proved fierce, ending in a three-way tie and a dramatic ‘Heads & Tails’ tiebreaker.

The winning team
With a coveted case of wines from Shenfield Wine Company up for grabs, the stakes were high. The Brentwood Wine Appreciation Society ultimately claimed victory, their expertise shining through.
Beyond the competition, the true highlight of the evening was the incredible support shown for SNAP’s work. The charity auction featured a fantastic selection of prizes generously donated by local businesses and supporters. Special thanks to Brandler Galleries, New Hall Wine Estate, Missing Gate Wine Estate and Winged Boots, Shenfield.
Karen Boath, CEO said, “What a fantastic night! We are so grateful to Labelnet for sponsoring this event for the second year running, it is so special to have them involved again.
“Also, a massive thank you to Nish, Penny and our three bluffers, Jos, Julia and James, for making this an unforgettable evening, without them all this event could not have happened. We are truly touched by the overwhelming support we receive from our community.”
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event was not only a memorable night of entertainment, but also a powerful reminder of what a community can achieve together. An incredible £6,000 was raised for SNAP which will help to ensure SNAP’s services continue to support thousands of local families.
