Ten years on…we’ve all grown together
9th May 2017
It’s ten years since SNAP moved into its purpose built centre and for one young girl in particular, the 17th May 2007 was a very special day.
Rosie Walker was just two years old on the day the centre was opened by HRH The Countess of Wessex and she was selected to present our Royal visitor with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
“Rosie had a great day,” recalls her mum Nikki. “Although I don’t think she realised the enormity of the event, I remember feeling honoured and excited.”
Adds Nikki: “I got the feeling that the Countess was genuinely interested in the cause; she spent more time than was allocated in each area and was really lovely.”
For Nikki and Rosie, the new centre was a fantastic addition to the community. “In the early years, The SNAP Centre was somewhere I could talk to other parents in the same boat as me. I felt less alone and less bewildered after coming to SNAP. I wasn’t the lady with the ‘different’ kid and it didn’t matter that Rosie wasn’t fulfilling the same milestones as all the other kids – she always had a lovely time,” says Nikki.
Ten years later and Nikki and Rosie will be among those attending the tenth anniversary celebration – an Open Day for all – to mark a decade of The SNAP Centre on Wednesday 17th May. Founder Hilary Needham hopes SNAP supporters will be able to join us for this very special day.
“I would be delighted to see the SNAP community help us celebrate the progress we have made in the past decade and the support we have offered to over 4,000 families,” says Hilary.
Nikki and Rosie are two grateful recipients of SNAP’s support.
“SNAP was my first stop for information when Rosie was very young. Now with Rosie at school we don’t come as often as we would like, but the one thing that remains the same is that it is a constant comfort just to know that SNAP is there.”
“Everyone is always friendly, professional and pleased to see us and always manage to find some useful information for us to take away.”
