SNAP brings world renowned autism expert to Essex
World renowned expert on autism, Professor Tony Attwood, flew into Essex for the first time last week to deliver two presentations organised by SNAP.
15th May 2017
Professor Tony Attwood, a clinical psychologist born in England and now living in Australia, was invited by SNAP to talk to its community of families and practitioners.
His appearance proved so popular that more than 200 people attended both presentations at the De Rougemont Manor Hotel in Warley on Wednesday 10th May.
Karen Boath, Manager (Families) at SNAP, said the Professor’s appearance was something of a coup for the charity and came as part of a European tour.
“Professor Attwood is known globally as an expert in his field; he has written a number of books and his presentations are well known for being informative, entertaining, practical and thought-provoking,” said Karen. “Many of the parents who use our services at SNAP are aware of his work and they were delighted to have the opportunity to hear from him in person. He didn’t disappoint.”
SNAP family parent, Lisa Birch, felt empowered by the presentation: “Professor Attwood is a world-class expert with the power to engage, excite and motivate. Those who attended were regaled with the most incredible tools to support individuals on the autism spectrum. A huge and heartfelt thank you to Tony.”
Fellow attendee and parent, Paula Farrow added: “Here is someone who is changing the world for people with Asperger’s. His extensive insights are extremely relevant to every aspect of home and school life for my children.”
Lisa was also full of praise for SNAP too: “SNAP is the gold standard blueprint of what a special needs charity should be, and in my view, should be ‘rolled out’ across the globe for their imperative work and their magnificent achievement today. Thank you to a ‘world-class’ special needs charity who moved heaven and earth to bring him to Brentwood. This amazing team routinely pulls off the impossible on a daily basis.”
Karen explained that Professor Attwood’s appearance is part of a series of events planned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of SNAP’s purpose-built centre in Warley.
“It’s a significant milestone for us and Professor Attwood’s presentations were a great way to start our programme of activities to mark it,” said Karen.
The programme continues with the Open Day at The SNAP Centre on Wednesday, 17th May between 11.00am and 5.00pm.
