Runners buoyed by sole music
12th June 2017
A trio of talented musical groups will be helping runners to hit the right note as they tackle the 3.5 mile Birketts’ Race4Business on 15th June in Chelmsford, raising money for SNAP.
Hop-ing to spur the runners over the finishing line is The Frog Island Jazz Band playing their classic 1920s and ’30s New Orleans Jazz. The band has built up an international reputation for their passion and authenticity for the musical recordings of the era.
Over the years they have made regular appearances at Jazz Clubs and venues across the UK, Eurpe and the USA. A career highlight for the band was being bestowed ‘International Honorary Citizens’ of New Orleans by the Mayor for their services to the music ofthe city.
Also bringing their first brass entertainment to the event is the Chelmsford Silver Band who will be performing in Central Park for passing runners. Founded almost 70 years ago as a group of amateur musicians, they play traditional brass band music for their own enjoyment and for appreciative audiences. The band has an extensive repertoire and mixes the traditional with modern popular numbers offering something for everyone.
And to complete the trio of talented music maestros are The Britannia Pipe Band, who will be performing along the course in Admiral’s Park. Formed in 2013 they offer encouragement to anyone who wishes to learn the bagpipes or drums, in a fun environment. They will be playing their traditional stirring music of the Scottish Highlands that has been enjoyed by the likes of Rod Stewart. Let’s hope it helps makes the runners challenge plain sailing!
