Overcoming obstacles together – for families who face them every day
Get ready for a fun, family-friendly afternoon filled with mud, obstacles and plenty of laughs, all while raising vital funds to support SNAP and the families we work with across Essex.
Escape the ordinary, get outdoors, and let your inner explorer free as you tackle muddy obstacles, climbing walls, slides and cargo nets, finishing with the most renowned obstacle: the notorious ‘Deathslide’.
With 90 minutes on the clock, can you complete SNAP’s Mighty Mud Challenge?
This event kicks off our SNAP Awareness Week on Saturday 20th June. Join members of the SNAP Team on the course with your family, friends and office buddies. You can also take part on your own and make friends along the way while clambering over obstacles, plunging into the water, and getting plucked out of the mud.
This event will be relaxed and can be taken at your own pace within the 90 minutes. If you do not feel comfortable completing all obstacles, they can be bypassed to continue the course.
SNAP’s Mighty Mud Challenge is being held at Nuclear Essex’s Wild Forest. Find out more about this course here.

Do I need to be super fit to take part?
Not at all! The event is suitable for a wide range of abilities. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just want to have fun with friends, you can go at your own pace and enjoy the experience.
How long does it take to complete the course?
Most participants complete the course in around 90 minutes, depending on pace, teamwork and how long you spend enjoying (or recovering from!) the obstacles.
Is there an age limit?
Yes, participants must be aged 6 or over to take part. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult where appropriate and younger supporters are very welcome to come along and cheer!
Are all obstacles suitable for all ages?
Most obstacles are designed to be suitable for a wide range of ages. However, the Deathslide obstacle is only appropriate for participants aged 10 and over. Younger participants will have an alternative obstacle to complete at the finish so everyone can still enjoy the full experience safely.
Can spectators attend?
Yes, spectators are very welcome to come along and cheer you on! Please note that for safety reasons, spectators are not permitted to follow participants around the course and must remain within the main viewing area at the start of the course.
Do I have to fundraise?
We kindly ask all participants to aim for a minimum fundraising target to help support SNAP’s vital work. These targets are there to help us make the biggest possible impact for local families:
- Children (ages 6–15): £45 minimum sponsorship
- Adults (16+): £75 minimum sponsorship
- Corporate teams (5+ people): £500 minimum sponsorship
Every pound raised really does make a difference and we’re so grateful for any support you’re able to give. If you’re able to go beyond your target, even better, but most importantly, we just want you to enjoy taking part and helping us make a real difference.
What does my registration fee include?
Your registration fee covers entry to SNAP’s Mighty Mud Challenge. It also includes a SNAP T-shirt and a finisher’s certificate to celebrate your achievement.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes and trainers you don’t mind getting muddy (very muddy!). Many people choose fancy dress for extra fun.
Will there be somewhere to clean up afterwards?
Yes, there will usually be basic wash-down facilities so you can rinse off after completing the course, but don’t expect to stay completely clean!
Can I take part as a team?
Absolutely! Many people sign up with friends, family or colleagues. It’s a great team-building experience and even more fun when shared.
Is it safe?
Yes, safety is a priority. Participants will be asked to complete a medical disclaimer before taking part and event staff will be on hand throughout the course.
What happens if the weather is bad?
SNAP’s Mighty Mud Challenge will go ahead in most weather conditions, after all, a bit of rain just adds to the mud! In extreme circumstances, updates will be shared with participants.
Where can I find more detailed event information?
For more detailed information about safety, course rules and general event guidance, please refer to the Nuclear Essex FAQs.
Why should I take part?
Not only will you have an unforgettable day, but you’ll also be helping SNAP continue its vital work supporting, nurturing and partnering with children and young people with additional needs and their families. Supporting, nurturing and partnering with families.
