SNAP is pleased to welcome back Geoff Evans. With over 30 years working with children and young people on the autism spectrum, Geoff’s experience and insights have helped parents and professionals nationwide.
In this talk Geoff will begin by providing an overview of children and young people with a Pathological Demand Avoidance profile before identifying and discussing behaviours which may be seen as challenging. These will include resistance and avoidance of the demands of everyday life, excessive mood swings, obsessive behaviours and masking their difficulties. Also appearing very controlling and dominating. Geoff will look at the possible functions of these behaviours before discussing approaches and strategies to support the child and family. Throughout the talk Geoff will draw upon recent research and the experiences of families and those with a Pathological Demand Avoidance profile.
