Enhancing Communication Workshops
12th February 2018
SNAP held another two-session course for parents, to help support their child’s communication.
The aim of each workshop was to provide practical advice to help enhance a child’s spoken language and to explore the benefits of using non-verbal methods to support communication.
The tutor Shoenagh introduced the group of 16 parent/carers to a variety of different methods over the sessions. Her engaging style made the practical workshops fun, relaxed and educational.
The first week focused on Objects of Reference and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), with the second week giving the opportunity to learn some basic Makaton signs.
We recieved lots of positive feedback from the parents who attended:
“The course was spot on, it was varied enough to pick and choose what works for your child’s individual needs.”
“It’s great to hear other stories and share experiences with people in a similar situation”
