Egg-stra special sessions at SNAP this Easter
The Easter holidays were egg-cellent at The SNAP Centre with so many of our families sharing with us how much our holiday sessions mean to them. Our sessions help many parents and children to not feel so alone or isolated and they really appreciate the safe space they have to talk to other families who understand and support what one another are going through.
Services Manager, Rachel, shares, “We host holiday sessions at SNAP because some of our parents find it really difficult to find places to take their SEN children during the school holidays. SNAP is built for their SEN children and it’s a familiar environment for our families to return to.”
“A lot of the families we see in the holidays we don’t see in term time. They look forward to coming back in the holidays and seeing old friends they may not see as regularly now or ask the team any questions that may have arisen recently for their family.”
For one morning only, The SNAP Centre was transformed into a train extravaganza with real working motorised trains, train slides, a sit-on train loop and a huge Thomas The Tank Engine-themed track – our families absolutely loved it!
One parent shared, “This session has been amazing for my son, he loves trains and has been able to share his hobby with other children. The session benefits me as I get to talk to other adults about issues and share worries. It helps me to get out of the house without worrying. It gives me a safe place for him to play too.”
An enormous thank you to Liteplan Limited for sponsoring these sessions and making it possible for our families to experience this.
We also had Pop Up Arcade UK join us for a session with our young people in one of our Superstars holiday sessions. It was packed full of everything a gamer could wish for:
- Fan-favourite games like Minecraft, FC24, Mario Kart, and many more.
- Head-to-Head racing complete with two racing chairs
- VR headsets
- A selection of the latest consoles, including Xbox Series S, PS4, Switch and Wii U
This exciting session was well-received by all that attended, including many of the staff members too!
One parent shared, “My son was excited that SNAP was running a gaming arcade, as he has not been to one before and he loves gaming at home. He feels safe and supported [at SNAP], with other young people similar to himself.”
A big thank you to PMD Construction for sponsoring this session and making it possible for our young people to experience these gaming rigs!
Rachel continues, “We were so excited to bring a couple of new ideas into our sessions, and we brainstormed as a team and with families and made the pop-up arcade and track play happen. We are always on the lookout for new activities as we can provide a safe, quieter environment for our families.”
