An Insight into ADHD
A talk by Steve Challen from ADHD+ Support
12th September 2018
At the start of the new term, we were delighted to welcome Steve Challen back to the centre to give parents his insight into ADHD. Steve’s organisation ADHD+ Support provides support to families in Essex and aims to help them learn more about the condition.
Steve has a unique understanding and extensive personal experience of ADHD. Diagnosed at the age of 13, Steve has since gained confirmation of other coexisting conditions such as ODD, Tourette’s Syndrome, OCD, and Dyslexia. Steve is also a father of four, and all his children exhibit traits of the same conditions.
80 parents attended the evening to hear Steve discuss the biology of ADHD and how this can present in a wide range of day-to-day symptoms. He discussed how we can support those with the condition and also explored how we can develop the positive characteristics of ADHD and utilise individual strengths.
Below are some examples of the feedback we received from parents following the talk:
“I have much more understanding about ADHD and got great advice to use at home. Steve has completely changed our home life with this information and insight.”
“I have learnt many new things to try at home and I’ve learnt how my son thinks and why he acts the way he does.”
“The information has been really useful in helping me understand how my son may feel and how I can help him become a confident happy child.”
