Purple (formerly known as ecdp) builds on the success of its legacy organisation, Essex based disability charity ecdp, a user-led disability organisation which provides a range of support for disabled people including support planning, PA recruitment, payment and payroll services and independent employment advice for service users in some council areas across the UK. It no longer supports Essex County Council.

In June 2024, Purple relaunched with the Thurrock Direct Payment Support Service.
