About this Specialist Talk
SNAP will be joined by members of Essex County Council’s Preparing for Adulthood: Targeted Employment team, to help families understand the potential options and pathways for their child or young person’s future in regard to employment.
Transitioning from education to employment is a key milestone in preparing for adulthood, and parents play a vital role in supporting this journey. This webinar is designed to empower parents with practical knowledge and strategies to help their young person build confidence, skills, and independence as they move toward the world of work.
We’ll explore:
- Readiness for Work While in Education:
How schools and colleges can help develop employability skills early, including work experience, vocational learning, and building independence. - Pathways to Employment:
Understanding supported internships, accessible apprenticeships, and other routes that lead to meaningful work opportunities. - Finding Employment:
Tips for navigating job searches, engaging with employers, and accessing local and national support services. - Myth Busting:
Challenging common misconceptions about what young people with SEND can achieve in the workplace and clarifying the support available to them and their families.
This session will provide clear, actionable advice and highlight real-life success stories to inspire confidence and optimism. Parents will leave with a toolkit of resources and a better understanding of how to advocate for their young person’s future.
