SUMMARY:Girls on the Autism Spectrum - 2 talks
DESCRIPTION:Girls on the Autism Spectrum – 2 talks\nJanuary 27\, 2021\, 11:00 am or 7:00 pm\n \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n SNAP are please to welcome Kathryn Miller who will be hosting this session which aims to help parents and professionals understand more about the presentation of autism more often seen in girls and women. \nDo you feel like much of what you hear and read about autism does not resonate? \nDo you find that your daughter/granddaughter is not showing autistic behaviours? \nDo you find it hard to get others (family/friends/professionals) to understand how autism can be different? \nIt is becoming increasingly evident that many girls with autism are still falling through the net due to a typically ‘boy-led’ way of thinking about autism. Even the diagnostic criteria is still heavily weighted to recognise certain behaviours and traits that girls often don’t show. \nThis course aims to explore how and why girls may present differently\, and why some girls might receive incorrect or incomplete diagnoses making it difficult to access appropriate support and identify effective strategies. We will also consider how to encourage greater understanding and empathy\, as well as looking at the behaviours that can challenge our thinking and create worry and concern for girls. It is suitable for parents\, grandparents and carers as well as professionals who would like to learn more about autism in girls\, not necessarily just those girls who have a diagnosis. \nImportant Information \nZoom Webinar – join us during the live webinar via the Zoom application. SUMMARY:Sensory Processing Differences with Kathryn Miller
DESCRIPTION:This session aims to develop your awareness of how sensory needs may present in your child\, give tools for analysing these and strategies to help your child to cope effectively. \nWhat are the seven senses (and more…) and what does it mean when a person has sensory processing differences? Sensory processing differences are very commonly experienced by people who have a diagnosis of autism\, but are also often experienced by people who have no diagnosis – including all of us at times (e.g. when overwhelmed\, tired\, hungry\, etc). Sensory processing differences can be problematic – leading to issues coping in certain environments. \nPlease feel free to submit questions prior to the training by emailing us at admin@snapcharity.org (ensure the name of the talk is in the subject line).
