SUMMARY:Girls on the Autism Spectrum - 2 talks
DESCRIPTION:Girls on the Autism Spectrum – 2 talks\nJanuary 27\, 2021\, 11:00 am or 7:00 pm\n \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n SNAP are please to welcome Kathryn Miller who will be hosting this session which aims to help parents and professionals understand more about the presentation of autism more often seen in girls and women. \nDo you feel like much of what you hear and read about autism does not resonate? \nDo you find that your daughter/granddaughter is not showing autistic behaviours? \nDo you find it hard to get others (family/friends/professionals) to understand how autism can be different? \nIt is becoming increasingly evident that many girls with autism are still falling through the net due to a typically ‘boy-led’ way of thinking about autism. Even the diagnostic criteria is still heavily weighted to recognise certain behaviours and traits that girls often don’t show. \nThis course aims to explore how and why girls may present differently\, and why some girls might receive incorrect or incomplete diagnoses making it difficult to access appropriate support and identify effective strategies. We will also consider how to encourage greater understanding and empathy\, as well as looking at the behaviours that can challenge our thinking and create worry and concern for girls. It is suitable for parents\, grandparents and carers as well as professionals who would like to learn more about autism in girls\, not necessarily just those girls who have a diagnosis. \nImportant Information \nZoom Webinar – join us during the live webinar via the Zoom application. You will have the opportunity to submit a question during the session via the Q&A feature. Attendees will not be seen or heard during the webinar\, attendee names are only visible to the webinar panellists. \nWe ask that the Zoom log in details are not shared with any third party to ensure everyone who has paid for a ticket is able to access the webinar without issue. \nQuestions can also be submitted prior to the webinar by emailing us at – admin@snapcharity.org \nAttend either: \nMorning Talk – 11.00am  – Click here to book for this session. \nEvening Talk – 7.00pm  – Click here to book for this session. \nEmail info@snapcharity.org if you would like to register to attend. \nRegistered SNAP Parent/Carer/Family – £5 \nParent/Carer/Family not registered with SNAP – £10 \nProfessional – £15 \nPlease note: If you need a refund for this event at any time then an admin fee will be deducted by Eventbrite. \nWe ask that the links to the webinars are kept private to ensure that everyone who has paid is able to access the session without issue. SUMMARY:Behaviour as Communication with Kathryn Miller
DESCRIPTION:Behaviour as Communication with Kathryn Miller\nOctober 20\, 2021\, 11.00am to 1.00pm or 7.00pm to 9.00pm\n \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \n\n \n	\n\n	\n \n \n\n\n\nOften we refer to behaviour as challenging; it challenges our thinking and can make us feel powerless…until we are able to understand it. Behaviour is often a primary means of communicating when we are feeling overwhelmed\, unable to find the words we need or not able to regulate ourselves effectively. \nThis talk will look at challenging behaviours you may be seeing from your child\, helping you to analyse and gain a greater understanding of root causes for behaviours and think about what your child is communicating through their behaviours. We will explore strategies for coping with and addressing challenging behaviours; changing our approaches and thinking in order to help our children feel more understood and have their needs met effectively. \n  \n\n\n\n\nImportant Information \nZoom Webinar – join us during the live webinar via the Zoom application. \nQuestions can also be submitted prior to the webinar by emailing us at – admin@snapcharity.org \nWe ask that the links to the webinars are kept private to ensure that everyone who has paid is able to access the session without issue.
