Although the children enjoy the activities, I have benefited so much from being able to talk to other parents and access support for me.

It is such a warm and friendly place and we can sit and relax with a coffee knowing both children are so happy - we never get a chance to do this anywhere else.

This little piggy went to SNAP

As we all get used to the shiny new 12-sided pound coin, the old round pound could still be of value to SNAP.

The old pound coin will cease to be legal tender on 15 October, 2017 and after this date shops, restaurants and other businesses will not accept it, but SNAP has a valuable use for these coins if supporters could donate them to the charity. It will still be possible to exchange or deposit the old pound coin into accounts at most high street banks and at the Post Office and so SNAP is hoping that people will see this as an opportunity to give a little to the local community.

New supporter, Becky Allison, has already decided to do exactly that.

"I love getting involved and supporting groups in my local community, but as a working mum with three children my busy schedule doesn't leave me with much free time! When recently visiting friends I commented on a piggy bank sitting on their windowsill and learnt that they were collecting their loose change in it to donate to charity, and I thought I could do that too, " said Becky.

"I called the charity, collected a pig from their centre in Warley and now (he) is sitting on my windowsill too. We've named him Hammy, and gradually he is filling up, sometimes with a pound coin and sometimes with a few odd coppers."

Becky adds: "Working in a local pre-school I was already aware of how fantastic SNAP is, and had seen first-hand the difference they make to families who are looking for guidance and support. It's great to feel like I am making a little contribution that is really easy to do and keeps SNAP in my thoughts."

Robert Dennis, SNAP's Community Fundraiser was pleased to hear from Becky and grow SNAP's army of friendly piggy banks that are hopefully bringing home the bacon.

"Even a few pounds in your 'pig' can help buy vital books. SNAP's extensive specialist library has a huge collection of books and information sheets that provide parents, carers and professionals with focussed information in a digestable way."

Piggy Banks have raised over £7,900 since they first trotted to SNAP in 2012

£5 would make sure a parent had a place to turn to by providing an initial helpline conversation with a parent adviser

£10 would provide a specialist book, such as 'Sensory Strategies by Corinna Laurie', that can be used by families to help them discover practical ways to support their child's sensory processing

£25 would help towards the daily maintenance of our vital library resources, used by many families, schools and professionals

"The reading material you have given me is amazing as I can relate to it completely."

"The library is invaluable and the SNAP staff have always been particularly supportive to our family... I don't know how I would have coped without them."
