TRANSITION - ESSEX SUPPORT |
PAPWORTH TRUST provides a range of services for disabled people to ensure they have more equality, choice and independence in their lives. The Trust offers a day service for disabled adults in order to promote independent living skills, IT skills and literacy and numeracy. A youth club for young people aged 14 to 19 years old takes place at the centre every Tuesday night between 7pm and 9pm. Papworth Trust also provides a workstep programme, placing people with disabilities into employment.

PARTNERS IN POLICYMAKING (Eastern Region) is a leadership development course for disabled adults (self-advocates) and parents of disabled children up to school leaving age. Participants meet for two days per month, for 8 months, which includes an overnight stay. The course, all meals and accommodation are free of charge.

Pi (Parents for Inclusion) runs a telephone helpline and information service and has local groups, which lobby and explain the issues at local level. Pi is developing a model of school-based support groups to reach more parents and influence schools. Pi represents the voice of parents as allies to young disabled people and makes the case for keeping children in their families and neighbourhoods. The Helpline is open Tues and Thurs 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm.

PLAY PLANET FAMILY PROJECT offers many services both at the Centre and at Outreach Groups in the Brentwood, Basildon and Castle Point areas. The Outreach Groups offer drop-ins, parenting courses, anger management and anti-bullying programmes for children and young people. Open 10.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Saturday, except Wednesdays 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
