CHILD AND ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE (CAMHS)
Last Updated: 17.06.2010
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE (CAMHS) is provided from two different agencies, the local authority and the NHS. The NHS complex and acute services are delivered via ten (CFCS Tier 3) clinics across Essex by a team of people from different professions. The targeted earlier intervention is provided by Essex County Council (CAMHS Tier 2) and works directly within the community and within schools, from quadrant based teams in South, North, West and Mid Essex. The inpatient services (Tier 4) are provided by the NHS within two units, Longview in North Essex and Poplar in South Essex. Services are now jointly commissioned by the local authority and the Essex Primary Care Trusts on behalf of the range of agencies involved in the planning of services for vulnerable children and their families. There is also Lionmede unit in Chelmsford, which provides CAMHS services for looked after children and adopted children and their families, support for foster carers, and specifically commissioned work on cases involved in legal proceedings.
