EXTENDED SCHOOLS
Last Updated: 00.00.2000
The Government's definition of an extended school is one that provides a range of services and activities, often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community. This provides a basis from which Essex County Council is working to develop the role of schools, with other providers, in promoting the welfare of individual children and contributing to community well-being in general. There is a spectrum of forms of extended schools, ranging from those developing early activities in, for example, breakfast clubs and after school hours learning, through to those working to develop a range of service outlets (for example, with health, police or social care).
